family legal services - our approach
The family legal department is committed to working sensitively with clients to promote realistic solutions to family legal problems that ensure that costs are not disproportionate to the issues involved. It involves a close partnership between the solicitor and client and a recognition that legal advice offered would centre on the real issues in the case.
The department are members of Resolution - First for Family Law, a highly respected and influential grouping of lawyers who are committed to a Code of Conduct that encourages solicitors to "deal with matters in a way designed to preserve people's dignity and encourage them to reach agreement".  Head of the department, Mark Hepworth and associate Nina Banerjee have both achieved national recognition as Accredited Specialists within the field of Family Law, of which only a handful practise in North Yorkshire. Mark's specialist areas are cohabitation and Court advocacy, whilst Nina specialises in financial and Children Act proceedings.
The family department does not undertake Legal Aid work but will discuss flexible approaches to funding that recognises client's individual circumstances.
