Redundancy is a fair reason for dismissal, although a fair procedure must be followed. Employees with over 2 years' service are entitled to a statutory redundancy payment although one year's service is required to claim unfair dismissal.

If there is not a genuine redundancy situation or a fair selection and consultation procedure have not been followed, the dismissal may be unfair.
