The employment department's proactive and hands-on approach is designed to reduce potential employment tribunal claims as far as possible.

It is never possible to eliminate employment claims. Unlike court proceedings there is no fee payable when beginning a claim in the Employment Tribunals and the costs risk for employees is minimal so even "hopeless" claims may reach a hearing. However if the claim is misconceived it is possible to recover costs from the employee.
