construction - introduction

The construction department acts for developers, contractors, sub-contractors, engineers, developer’s banks and a wide range of employers (from educational institutions to companies expanding their businesses) and deals with both contentious and non-contentious construction and engineering matters. The department also advises on Intellectual Property and Information Technology matters, geared towards the industry.

The department is recognised by the independent legal directories Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 . The latest Chambers & Partners directory (2010) published in November 2009 states:

Denison Till remains York’s premier construction counsel. The group acts for a number of key local clients, including the University of York, York St John University and, slightly further afield, East Lindsey District Council. Gareth Hevey heads the compact group and draws client praise for his avoidance of jargon: “He understands and uses the language of the construction industry, avoiding legalese.” Gareth Hevey is ranked as a Leading Lawyer.

The construction department is on the panels of The National Federation of Roofing Contractors and Association of Interior Specialists and has membership with The Society for Computers and Law.

Given the urgency of most construction work, the team is used to rapid response times and deals with queries, document drafting or speedy advice on a same-day basis, when feasible.
