Andrew Lindsay and Alistair Duncan are the key contacts at York stalwarts Denison Till. It advises a number of manufacturers and real estate developers and is now well positioned to serve the growing biotech cluster in York, with clients such as York Bioanalytical Solutions and Accent Optical Technologies on board.

2) Commercial property: North and East Yorkshire - Yorkshire and The Humber
Denison Till’s commercial property team, under Sally Robinson, works closely with the firm’s development team, representing a varied and impressive client base. A major client win over the last year was Evans Easyspace, which it advised on the acquisition of development land for offices and workshops. The firm also receives work from Shepherd Building Group, The Helmsley Group, Biffa Waste Services, the University of York and the National Railway Museum.

3) Employment: East and North Yorkshire
Denison Till’s work over the year has been impressively wide-ranging. The team represented Burgess Group, York College, Shepherd Building Group, Pro-Pak Foods, Whitby Seafoods and the Diocese of York on issues such as religious discrimination, sexual orientation, executive severance claims, and boardroom disputes. Brian Harrington, supported by Tiggy Clifford, promotes a commendably proactive approach.

4) Commercial litigation: Leeds, West Yorkshire - Yorkshire and The Humber
Denison Till’s Johanne Spittle continues to lead the firm’s litigation group in increasingly complex disputes, including international cases. In 2006 it advised a Turkish company in a contractual dispute with a leading international pharmaceutical company.

5) Agriculture and estates - Yorkshire and The Humber
Denison Till’s team, under David Grice, advises on registration, purchases and lettings, agricultural tenancies, sporting rights, and farm sales. Over the past year it has handled commercial leases for Castle Howard Estate, Newburgh Priory and Hovingham, as well as advising on a range of conversions and joint ventures.

6) Ecclesiastical and church law: Church of England - London
Lionel Lennox heads Denison Till’s ecclesiastical and notary public team, and has a wealth of expertise in ecclesiastical law as the registrar for both the Diocese and Province of York, as well as being a member of the legal advisory commission for the General Synod, which provides legal advice on matters referred to it by church bodies and office holders. Lennox also has experience of the intricate legal procedures entailed in appointing the Archbishop of York in 2005.
